What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is an evidence-based treatment method that aims to increase the mobility of patients, improve their functionality and protect their health. Physiotherapy, which is a health service covering rehabilitation, prevention of disabilities and improvement of general health, has a wide range of applications on musculoskeletal, circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems. Physiotherapists specialise in assessing the patient's mobility and creating individualised treatment programmes.

What does a physiotherapist do?

A physiotherapist develops treatment plans to address movement problems according to the patient's age and health condition. These plans include various methods such as exercise prescriptions, manual therapy, education and counselling. Patients may experience movement limitations due to old age, injury, disease or environmental factors. Physiotherapists use special techniques to alleviate these limitations and improve quality of life.

What are Physiotherapy Methods?

  1. Training and Consultancy: Advice is provided to help patients maintain their general health. For example, it includes daily advice on correct posture, maintaining a healthy weight and safe movement techniques.

  2. Movement and Exercise: Physiotherapists recommend regular exercises to improve the patient's strength and flexibility. Water therapy, walking and personalised physical activities fall into this category.

  3. Manual Therapy: The physiotherapist aims to improve pain, stiffness, circulatory problems and fluid drainage through massage and manipulation techniques with the hands.

  4. Other Techniques: Pain and muscle spasms can be reduced using supportive methods such as acupuncture, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and ultrasound therapy. Although some of these techniques are not fully supported scientifically, they may be effective in some patients.
